23 Dec 10: Added a race report for league round 11 at Broome Heath.

23 Dec 10: The Eastern Cyclo-Cross League is very pleased to announce a deal with energy product suppliers Clif Bar. For 2011 all entrants to Eastern Cyclo-Cross League events will receive a free Clif Bar Energy Bar when they sign on.

The first opportunity for league riders to get their hands on the tasty Clif Bar Energy Bar’s is at the XRT-Elmy Cycles Supacross Category A event at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich on the 2nd January.

Eastern Cyclo-Cross Association Chairman Mark Wyer said, “We are delighted to be able to offer our riders a chance to sample the Clif Bar products. The Energy Bars are delicious and easily digestible so should go down well with our riders.”

David Smith the Clif Bar UK Market Manager said “Clif Bar & Company are proud to support the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League. Cyclo-Cross is a sport we have been associated with since its early days in the USA and we are delighted to provide support to participants as they pursue their passions here in the UK”.

23 Dec 10: Entries are now open for the Team Championships and League prize presentation. See the event page for further details and an entry form. Note that the closing date for entries is 31st January 2011 - no entry on the day.

19 Dec 10: Results are posted for league round 11 at Broome Heath.

19 Dec 10: Today's race at Broome Heath is ON. The weather up here is a lot clearer than it is further south.

14 Dec 10: Results and league positions are now posted for the Regional Championships. Apologies for the delay. The various veteran categories have been combined for the points calculation, taking into account the staggered start times. As expected, we were unable to produce a combined result that would be fair to all the under-12 categories, due to the separate under-10 race, which was held over a different distance. Therefore, we have awarded all Eastern League riders their season's average points, which is fair to those riders who still need to complete 8 rides. Please check your results. If you think something is wrong, contact the webmaster.

14 Dec 10: Dave Hayward has uploaded photos from the Regional Championships.

14 Dec 10: Penny Aubugeau-Williams would like to thank the person who handed in her purse, which she mislaid at the Regional Championships.

14 Dec 10: Sadly, we have to report the death of Joceline Colbourne. Joceline was an enthusiastic supporter of her daughter Henrietta when she rode in the region. Our thoughts are with her family.

30 Nov 10: Regional Championships update: Short of a major depth of snow this Sunday the championships for SE and E regions will bring the best of the Eastern and London Leagues together to race it out for medals and £640 in cash prizes. The course is adaptable enough to be good in all weather. The descents can all be made on grass so frosty conditions won’t mean a cancellation. If it’s frost and snow the grassy and off-road sections will all be fine to ride and there are no sharp turns on the tarmac to worry about.

Tricky parts of the course have all been staked ahead of the frost and snow due this week. All long grass has been trimmed and the cuttings taken away. Ground conditions are firm to rock hard but it’s still muddy just below the surface layer, so riders can’t be sure of coming home clean.

Full programme can be downloaded from the event website which includes course plan, links to a map and weather forecast. Any last-minute instructions will be emailed to riders and copied onto the website as well. – You just have to make sure you’ve got a shovel, blanket and flask in the car…!

Biggest start of the day will see 93 Veterans go off with 10 Juniors and 17 Women. Youths has a field of 57 including 25 u14s and 15 women. Only 39 seniors are signed on so there will be no team medals.

Regional championships are advance entry only and entries are now closed. Only the non-championship u12 and u10 races offer EoL. Weather permitting we will have a course-side snowman competition after their races to keep the grown ups entertained as well. Your organiser will have to think of a suitable prize (Er, warm gloves and a hot chocolate…?!)

The pavilion will be warm and dry. The showers will be hot and clean. All riders are asked to help keep them that way by bringing a plastic bag in which to leave mucky outer kit and shoes by the door.

26 Nov 10: See the Youth page for details of floodlit cyclo-cross Go-Ride racing for under 16s.

18 Nov 10: Cyclocross Research: This winter Writtle College Sports Science Department will once again be carrying out cyclocross research at regional and international level. I would like to thank all of you who volunteered for our previous research as it has enabled us to collect some extremely interesting and publishable data and would like to call for additional volunteers this season. My students will be conducting two projects: the first investigating mental toughness and the second analysing the biomechanics of running with a bike. My own research is in the mathematical analysis of power data collected during races and builds on some work I did last year with professional riders. If you are interested in participating, whether you have volunteered in the past or not, please contact me via email at cyclocrossresearch@gmail.com or phone me on 07977 260763. Thank you in anticipation of your help, Mark Walker.

18 Nov 10: Due to the water being turned off at Foxhall and the stadium facilities being shut down over the winter, please note that there will be a modest supplementary charge of £2 per Vehicle to help cover the extra costs of bringing in portable toilets etc. Please also note that it may not be possible for us to provide hot showers on the day although we will work to make the facilities available as comfortable as possible for all.

13 Nov 10: Further clarification (sorry): apparently, it's not the region that's marked on your British Cycling card that matters for the Regional Championships, it's where you live.

10 Nov 10: Clarification: you need to be a member of British Cycling and and living in the BC Eastern or South East regions in order to ride the Regional Championships. So, even if you're a member of the League, you can't ride if you live in another region. This is unfortunate for some riders, but the championships are required to be run under British Cycling regulations, over which the League has no direct control. (Edited 13 Nov 10.)

10 Nov 10: Added a race report for league round 7 at Redgrave.

9 Nov 10: Mark Cozens has uploaded photos from Redgrave to www.mphotography.co.uk.

7 Nov 10: Reminder: you need to enter in advance for the Regional Championships, and the closing date is 15th November. This applies to under-12s too, but not under-10s. The event counts towards the Eastern league except possibly the under-12 race (it's not easy to see how points can be awarded when under-12s and under-10s are racing separately).
