The Elmy Cycles Eastern Cyclo Cross League runs from September to February, covering the counties Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Joining the League is great value, though you don't have to join to ride the events. Watch this space for details of how to join the 2013-14 League. As a league member you get a discount on the entry fee for each league race, news updates and results by email, usually on the day of the race. And, of course, you're eligible for league points.
The league offers prizes for the top riders at the end of the season in various categories: senior, veteran, junior, women, youth and under 12. League placings are determined by your best finishing positions in about two thirds of the league races. The league honours its old friend, the late Ivan Jeckell by awarding the Ivan Jeckell Trophy each year to the best club or team.
Cyclo cross is suitable for experienced racers and novices alike. New faces are always welcome. If you're a beginner, take a look at our guide for people who are new to cyclo-cross. For league races just bring your bike and helmet and sign on - mountain bikes are allowed. For other events different rules may apply - if in doubt, check with the race organiser.
You can join us at our EasternCross Facebook group. It's open to league members and friends only, so you'll be told you need to "Ask to join" when you follow that link. If you think it's likely that I won't recognise you from your Facebook account, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
For 2012-13 all entrants to Eastern Cyclo-Cross League events will receive a free Clif Bar energy bar when they sign on.

We understand that not everyone has or wants a Facebook account, so this website (www.easterncross.org.uk) remains the place where we'll make our important announcements. You won't be losing anything if you don't join the Facebook group, but you might gain something if you do.

28 Jan 12: Chris Doug has posted photos from Mistley.
28 Jan 12: Some of you will be aware that one of our under-12 riders, Joe Kiely,
was taken to hospital following a crash during his warm-up at Mistley.
Joe's father Dave gave us the following update on Tuesday:
'First of all it was an accident and we don't want anybody to feel guilty or responsible in any way. In fact I want to especially praise the St John's ambulance people, who were brilliant. If somehow you could pass my gratitude on to them I would be grateful.
There were some bystanders who looked after Joe and showed great kindness, particularly a man with his daughter who wrapped Joe in his coat. There was also a junior racer in blue who sprinted across the field to raise the alarm. I'm afraid I didn't get anyone's name as it was all such a whirlwind, but they know who they are. And special thanks to Tim Butler for letting me pile all my bikes and kit into his van and looking after them for me and the lady from the league who dropped everything to help me.
Joe managed to go off course and down the steep descent on the adult course where he "lost it" and collided with a tree.
He was briefly knocked out and was clearly in some distress. It turns out he'd fractured his skull and several bones in his face. He had a scan which showed some bleeding around his brain. It was a bit worrying for the first 24 hrs as he was very lethargic and they monitored him closely in Colchester General.
He now appears to be out of the "Danger Zone" and has been discharged home, but it's looking like he'll need some surgery to put his facial bones back in place. We knew he was getting better the next morning when a nurse asked him if he had any allergies and he answered "Just trees!"'
27 Jan 12: As agreed at last year's AGM, there will be an award for the best league event of the season, as decided by the riders. Please click to vote for your favourite event. The closing date is 3rd February, 2012 and the award will be presented at the end of season team event on 4th February.

21 Jan 12: If you're racing in the 11:00 race at Mistley on Sunday, please make sure you collect a special timing sticker at sign-on and attach it to your helmet. This is for the "chip" timing system, which we are trialling. We'll be using the PDA-based service too, so we still need yor numbers to be visible. Other races during the day will use only the PDA system.
21 Jan 12: A message from Bary Denny, organiser of the Inter Club Cyclo Cross on 4th Feb at Bury St Edmunds: "Whilst this is a mainly Team Event with the best three from each club counting in each race, we are accepting entries from individuals in all races. Some riders may like to make a weekend of it in Bury St Edmunds as we are holding our Suffolk Punch Reliability Ride the following day. It starts from our Club Room in Shakers Lane with a choice of 36, 60 or 75 mile routes and schedules between 11 and 18 mph. Entry fee £5. This yearís event is being held in memory of the late Brian Philips with proceeds going to help fund an East Grinstead CC team in the Team Time Trial event in Italy where Brian died last year.
